Zoning Frequently Asked Questions

1. If I have a complaint about an apparent zoning regulation, who do I call?
Our Building Commissioner, Keith Foulkes. He will investigate and take appropriate action if warranted. You can reach him at 235-4225 Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

2. My neighbor has a wrecked car in his driveway in front of his home. It really looks bad. Is that against any zoning regulation?
Yes . The maximum time a disabled vehicle can be parked on a driveway is 30 days after which it must be moved indoors or off the property. (Consult OT 210.08 (e) for greater detail)

3. My neighbor has a camper parked in the driveway in front of his home for long periods of time. Is that OK?
Yes and No. Basically it can be parked in the drive for no longer than 30 days (4) times per year provided it does not exceed 20 ft. in length. After that it must be stored in the back yard out of view of adjacent property (Consult OT 210.08 (d) for greater details)

4. My neighbor burns trash often in his back yard and causes smoke to enter my home. Can I do anything about it as they will not stop doing it at my request?
Yes, the EPA has regulations about that and are enforced by the fire department.

5. Is there a zoning regulation against too much noise?
There is a noise limiting regulation which limits emissions from all property. Yes, there can be to much noise. (Consult OT 210.09 (e) for greater details)

6. Are abandoned cars and trucks aloud on residential property?
Basically, they must be moved indoors for storage, or removed after 30 days from the property. (Consult OT 210.08 (c) (1) (5), (e) for greater details)
