What programs do we offer?

We offer installation by a certified firefighter by individual appointment, at your convenience.
CPR Training
We offer CPR classes to residents and local businesses. To schedule a class or for more information please contact us.
Knox Box Program
A Knox box or “key box” can be purchased and mounted on the exterior of your home. In the event of an emergency we can safely and efficiently gain access to your home by utilizing the key box. We are the only ones with access to this box. This is a terrific program for the elderly or disabled.
Home Safety Survey/ Smoke Detectors
If requested, we can provide a general fire and safety inspection of your home. We can also provide and install smoke detectors if you do not have them.
Other Programs
Fire Extinguisher training, Tours of the Facilities, Block Parties, Blood Pressure Screenings, Community Emergency Response Team training (CERT), Support and sponsors of community athletic teams.
2000 Calls Per Year
We provide Fire Protection and Emergency Medical Services to a population of 15,300 people in an area of 10.5 square miles. Emergency medical calls account for the majority of our total call volume.
In 2009 we responded to just under 2000 alarms of which 1,291 were emergency medical calls, 452 were responses for fire related emergencies and motor vehicle accidents, and 176 were for miscellaneous requests for service.
The Fire Department is comprised of 18 firefighters who fill three shifts of 6 firefighters each.
All firefighters serve a dual role as paramedics. We offer the highest level of pre-hospital care and carry state of the art equipment.
We do more with less. Although we try to maintain 6 firefighters per shift, we are allowed to drop to four. We have one of the highest call per man ratios in the entire county, yet we continue to offer the highest level of services.
Our average response time is under 4 minutes, 24 hours a day, and 7 days a week.
The Fire Department responded to 205 simultaneous emergencies in 2009.
By maintaining a minimum manning of 4 firefighters, we were able to cover our second squad 71% of the time in 2009.This reduced our need for Mutual Aid and improved response times for those calls.

The Olmsted Township Fire Department received notification from FEMA and the Department of Homeland Security that they have received funding in the amount of $1.95 million dollars for the construction of a new Fire Department headquarters. The new building will use a partially built structure that has gone unfinished since 2006. Construction and demolition will be planned in such a way as to not affect or diminish the level of service the department provides. The grant money can be used only on building construction and is scheduled to commence directly after a competitive bidding process, with a projected completion date of October 2011.
We need your support to continue providing the high standard of service that this community deserves.
