Press Release regarding Senior Transportation Connection
The Board of Trustees of Olmsted Township voted at its February 26, 2020 meeting to discontinue participation in the Senior Transportation Connection program to provide transport service to residents. The Township had worked with STC for about ten years. For the last four years the Township covered medical trips and group shopping trips only.
In December 2019, the Board of Trustees received an updated contract outlining the new 2020 rates. While the cost to the rider remained about $8.00 per one-way trip, the cost to the Township of a one-way trip increased from $16.75 to $25.00, about 50%.
The decision was based on a culmination of issues including cost and usage considerations that did not allow for a sustainable transport service model.
We notified subscribers that as of Friday, March 20, 2020, Olmsted Township will no longer provide senior transportation to our residents. Senior Transportation Connection will not accept any reservations for service that would occur after this date.
We are informing current subscribers and other senior residents of options specifically for medical transportation they may want to consider. These include RTA Paratransit, the American Cancer Society- Road to Recovery program, Medicaid (for those who qualify for this program), and Lyft Health with online registration.
Additional information is available at the Veterans Administration and Western Reserve Area on Aging.
For seniors who have difficulty leaving their home, a local service called House Calls of the Falls, provides in-home care or at Jenkins Place on Bagley Road in Olmsted Falls. Visits are billed to Medicare, Insurance or Medicaid in the same manner as any provider office visit.
